Perfect for the hiker, on the go drummer, or jr. hand drummer. These light weight smaller sized ashikos will see the sites without putting a burden on your space.
Our Campers Walnut Ashiko is made from hand selected, figured walnut staves. Each Walnut Ashiko is unique and hand-crafted. Walnut wood gives a bright tone and is a very sturdy hardwood. These drums are a little heavier than the Poplar wood drums. We don't use a lathe and shape the bearing edge and bottom groove by hand. We find this truly makes each drum one of a kind and ads our personal touch. This is what sets our drums apart from lathe turned, manufactured ashikos. Each ashiko is numbered on the inside of the shell and signed by the carver with a wood burning pen.
These drums are excellent in both craftsmanship and acoustics. Professional quality sound with tight bass, cracking slaps, and bright tones. The Campers size Walnut Ashiko is a smaller lighter version of our standard RHD Walnut Ashiko. The size is great to take on hikes and adventures when carrying a full sized drum would be a burden. These little guys still get great sound quality but are not as loud as our larger hand drums.
Let us know if you'd like your drum tuned high or if you prefer a more laid back lower pitch drum. We'll tune it up before we ship it out. We try to keep a few in stock, but because we build everything here custom and by hand, please contact us for availability. These ashikos take about 3 weeks to complete if we are out of stock.
