Hand Drum Lessons |
 |
I am now accepting students that are beginners to hand drumming for lessons. Whether your focus is traditional West African rhythms or a more modern and free-styled hand drumming, I have the experience to get you going or take you to the next level. I can teach you how to read music (including most common forms of hand-drum notation), improve your hand technique and timing, and traditional West African rhythms.
I have been drumming for over 6 years and have experience with Djembe, Ashiko, Dununs, Krin, and hand drumming concepts and exercises. I have taken classes with professional Djembefola's such as Bolokada Conde and Fode 'Lavia' Camara. I am a member of, and regularly perform with, the Charlotte Community Drummers (local group that performs traditional West African Rhythms).
I am first and foremost a student myself. I'm am learning as much as I can and am happy to share what I know. I take every chance I can to be involved when a West African teacher comes through the area. There are many drummers much better than me and I never pretend to know more than I do. I'm honest about my level of drumming and if I don't know something, I have the resources to find out!
I charge $30 per hour lesson. I have spots available Mon. Wed. and Thurs. from 5-7:30pm and am open to weekend classes. Pay is due per class unless an ongoing arrangement is made in which case a lower rate and monthly payments will be discussed.
I love to drum and am playing out in the community often. Give me a call if you have any questions or would like to come for a intro lesson. I do the lessons from my home in Indian Trail (near Chestnut and Old Monroe) and have a variety of drums if you don't have your own.
