Storing your Djembe
Try to keep your djembe in a bag. A nice djembe bag as is sold on our site is a very healthy way to store your drum when you aren't playing it. At the very least you should invest in something to cover the head, even a towel or small blanket will work. A good bag will protect your head and shell from more than just dents and dings, but also from log periods of direct sunlight, fast changes in weather conditions, and pets. It also provides an easy and safe way to transport your djembe.
If you plan on storing your djembe for a month or longer or are traveling where you will encounter different humidity and heat conditions, I suggest loosing your head a bit. For instance, I live in North Carolina, a fairly humid environment and I like my drums tight. If I was to travel with my djembe to Nevada a tight drum in NC is going to tighten up even more as Nevada is dry. Chances are my drum would pop if I don't take a few diamonds out. It's always a good idea to loosen your head if you travel.
