Our Walnut Ashikos are made from hand selected, American Black Walnut wood. Each Walnut Ashiko is unique and hand-crafted. Walnut wood gives a bright tone with a smooth bass and is a very sturdy hardwood. These hand drums are an excellent choice if you are looking for a great sound in a drum that is a bit smaller and lighter than a djembe. We round the shell by hand and shape the bearing edge and bottom groove by hand as well. Each of these Ashiko drums are built by the owner, not in a production line and never mass produced. This is what sets our drums apart from manufactured ashikos.
These drums sound excellent!! Both craftsmanship and acoustics of these drums will excite you. Professional quality sound with deep bass, cracking slaps, and super nice tones. We chose this specific size for our standard RHD Walnut Ashiko shell because we find it gives the best overall performance.
Let us know if you'd like your drum tuned high or if you prefer a more laid back lower pitch drum. We'll tune it up before we ship it out. We try to keep a few shells in stock, ready to head, but because we build everything here custom and by hand, please contact us for availability. These ashikos take 3-4 weeks to complete if we are out of stock.
