Eye of Nu – Custom Maple Djembe

I’m really excited about my newest order.? I’m doing a custom maple djembe with accents in bloodwood and the bands logo laser engraved and filled with a crushed stone inlay to match the bloodwood color.

Here is the approved form that I designed up to show the customer what his djembe will look like.

I’m going to get started on the shell this week and have some updates with photos and posts about the process.? I love custom orders like this and testing my skills as a woodworker and also a drum builder. Building a djembe as traditional as possible but using modern machinery and techniques is quite the task. I try and respect the tradition with every djembe I build and opt for the authentic djembe sound.
