Shells
Rhythm House Drum Sets are typically custom built per order. We build our drums using a stave design. Many options available for woods, or combination of woods.
Bearing Edge
The bearing edge of a drum is crucial to the overall tonality and sustain. By shaping the bearing edges with purpose we can color a drumset to meet the needs of any drummer and/or style. We offer 30, 45, and 60 degree cuts and round-overs as well as any combination of these. We often put a different edge profile on each in a set, as well different on batter vs resonant edges. I like to focus the batter heads to give more attack with the reso side a bit warmer. I also feel the high toms, low toms, and bass drums have different rolls to play, and the bearing edge should reflect that.
Skins / Heads
We love using natural calf skin heads on our drums, but understand they aren’t a good fit for everyone. We are happy to use more mainstream heads from Remo or Evans, can make suggestions on head choice to match the shell and bring in the overall sound that you are after.
Hardware
– Lugs
We most often prefer brass tube lugs as this really shows off the wood and natural beauty of the shell. Brass absorbs more vibration than other metals and keeps the overall tones warm. We use chrome plated brass tube lugs with added vibration dampening gaskets as our go-to lugs. However we also have many lug designs and prototypes that we are in the process of testing. If you are looking for a truly one of kind set – ask us how we can design / build lugs specific for your kit.
– Hoops
Hoops are a personal choice. Some like wooden hoops, some like the triple flange, and some prefer die cast. We like all of them, and they all have their place. We can build custom hoops from woods to accent your kit, or can make metal hoops if you want more power and attack. We are also happy to outfit the drums with more popular off the shelf triple flange, die cast, or s-hoops.
– Throw off
The Trick Drums USA throw-off is an excellent quality throw off. With 3 positive stops at different tensions, and a micro adjustment knob it gives a ton of flexibility to shape the sound you want out of your snare. We do not currently make throw-offs so we use ones that we have tried and feel are excellent quality. If you are looking for something a bit different than the Trick, let us know and we can work with you.
